Two women managed to con another woman by diverting her attention to pocket her gold mangalsutra at K.R. Hospital in city. Though the incident took place a couple of days ago, it has come to light yesterday.
The woman who lost the mangalsutra has been identified as 75-year-old Lakshmi, a resident of Vijayanagar and she lost her 30-gram mangalsutra. In her complaint to Devaraja Police, Lakshmi has said that on Mar. 11, she was entering the K.R. Hospital when a woman approached her saying that she had found a purse fallen on the road and would like to share the money with her (Lakshmi).
“The woman took me to the other side of the hospital saying that someone might be watching them. As we went near a tree, another woman landed at the spot and claimed that it was her purse and quarrelled with us. To prove her point that she was not a thief, one of the women told me to remove my mangalsutra to swear that I have not stolen the purse,” the woman stated in her complaint.
After the mangalsutra was removed, the women pretended to pack it in her (Lakshmi’s) sari and made her to keep it on her head to swear. After this, both the women left the place and one of the women thrust Rs. 400 into her hand before leaving. Lakshmi told the Police that she realised that she has been robbed of her chain later when she found that small stones had been packed in her saree instead of the mangalsutra.
Lakshmi told the Police that both the women might be between 25 and 30 years of age. Devaraja Police have launched a manhunt for the women.
